My Story

Creative Marketing Leader Photographer | Designer

I’m Mara Kennan — a Colorado native (yes a real one), creative marketing leader, and visual storyteller with a love for brands that live beyond the screen. My career has been shaped by the places I’ve been, the people I’ve met, and the stories I’ve helped bring to life.

From the quiet beauty of Colorado’s mountain passes to the energy of the cycling community, I’ve learned that the most meaningful creative work grows out of genuine human connection — the kind that builds lasting brands and loyal communities. My work spans creative direction, photography, graphic design, and brand building, always blending style, soul, and strategy.

Outside of my professional projects, I’m endlessly curious. I’ve lent my voice to national commercials, traveled cross-country in a van, and launched my own titanium anodizing and finishing company from scratch. Each of these experiences has shaped the way I approach my craft — with adaptability, attention to detail, and a willingness to keep evolving.

Music, travel, and learning have always been my compass. Whether it’s discovering a new city, picking up a new creative skill, or finding the perfect soundtrack for a project, I’m drawn to moments that spark emotion and inspire action. I believe that a properly executed brand strategy creates a visceral feeling for its followers that resonates far beyond basic advertising schemes.

Work Experience

  • OCTOBER 2021 - AUGUST 2025

    • Directed brand creative for Merlin Metalworks and DEAN Bikes, overseeing social media, email, web, and print to maintain a cohesive brand voice and visual identity

    • Created and sent out monthly email newsletters and other marketing material via Squarespace and Mailchimp that achieved high open rates and increased website traffic

    • Led 2024 DEAN Bikes rebrand: developed style guide, refreshed web design, and unified visual storytelling across channels

    • Acted as lead photographer and designer for product launches, marketing campaigns, and merchandise lines

    • Drafted press releases, media kits, and coordinated product launches, securing positive media coverage

    • Collaborated cross-functionally with vendors, brand ambassadors, and internal stakeholders to ensure cohesive messaging

    • Managed brand ambassadors, coordinated with athletes, and executed content at cycling events to deepen community engagement

    • Elevated  the customer experience by creating meaningful, effective, and interactive marketing campaigns, following suit with top media trends

    • Designed and released a small merchandise line for DEAN Bikes

    • Streamlined premium frame finish designs through graphic design and self-taught titanium anodization

  • JANUARY 2019 - JUNE 2020

    • Managed brand presence across digital and print channels, photographing for and developing social media, email campaigns, and advertising through both digital and print media

    • Directed product development and creative positioning for a CBD wellness brand, including compliance research and vendor coordination

    • Led sales strategy and built B2B relationships with major distributors nationwide

  • DECEMBER 2017- JANUARY 2019 

    • Performed administrative tasks such as inventory management, monthly sales audits and Intuit Quickbooks management

    • Acted as Brand Coordinator for VeloSport Imports – the import and distribution branch of Janus Cycle Group

    • Provided customer service, and marketing support for multiple cycling brands and carried omni-channel campaigns for each brand individually

    • Coordinated logistics for trade shows and events, strengthening industry relationships

  • FEBRUARY 2023 - PRESENT

    • Curated guest experiences at weddings, corporate events, fundraisers, and live performances, ensuring each occasion felt unique and memorable

    • Embodied and upheld The Rose’s brand identity, creating a welcoming atmosphere that left a lasting impression

    • Elevated beverage service by showcasing and promoting local craft offerings, enhancing the guest experience with authentic, community-rooted choices

    • Focused on building meaningful connections with guests, fostering an environment where every detail contributed to unforgettable moments
